Created in August 2006, Pretty in Purple Days (formerly Girls Night Out to Cut Out Domestic Abuse) is a nationwide movement to celebrate the collective power of salon and spa professionals and their communities to band together to Break the Silence, Break the Cycle and Save Lives.

Hosted by partnering salons and spas from coast to coast, Pretty in Purple Days (formerly Girls Night Out to Cut Out Domestic Abuse) emerged from a domestic abuse survivor’smoment of obligation to break her silence and mobilize other survivors for a strength in numbers campaign to Support, Benefit and Empower women, children and families touched by domestic abuse and domestic homicide. From 2006 to 2009, salon and spa owners along with GNO volunteers raised a collective $110,000 for local shelters, grassroots education and children orphaned by domestic homicide.

In 2009, the Girls Night Out to Cut Out Domestic Abuse™ campaign was given a new name: Pretty in Purple Days. This new name was inspired by feedback from partnering salon and spa professionals across the U.S. who believed the campaign was ready for a makeover!

Pretty in Purple Days is held each May during our national Go Purple to Break the Silence Awareness Month.

Purple Ribbon Council will continue to lend the Girls Night Out to Cut Out Domestic Abuse™ name, brand and logo to Purple Ribbon Ambassadors who wish to hold non-salon industry related GNO gatherings in their homes, their workplaces or their communities. The Girls Night Out to Cut Out Domestic Abuse™ name, logo and materials are the trademarked property of Purple Ribbon Council.
